Tom Bowers and Steve Nunnelee met for the first time in the early 70's at college
when they both showed up for an early Econ. class on the same day ( this was and
remained a highly unusual event ). Now we have been friends for over 35 years.
Steve's background includes the Marines, ST. Thomas, 25 years with Honeywell,
and 35 years in the woods and on the waters. Tom has been a retail sporting goods
manager, Alaska tour guide, canoe rental business owner and has lived in the
Grantsburg area since 1975. His grandfather taught him to fly fish at the age of 15.
He got hooked and as we well know "once your hooked your hooked for life"

I have always had a passion for the outdoors. My best memories are those of
adventures hunting, fishing, camping, whatever. I would like to help you build these
kind of memories too.. When you fish with Near North you fish with the owner and you
can be sure that I'm going to do everything possible to make your trip one that will
make you want to come back. When the trip calls for more than one boat or when I'm
booked for the day you want I have access to experienced, local,independent guides
to lend a hand. These guides have fished the area rivers for years and are expert fly
fishermen. Near North's relationship with the NPS makes us partners in preserving
the unspoiled beauty that is the St. Croix Scenic Riverway System. My guides and I
take that responsibility seriously and hope you will too. We endeavor to leave the
waterway better than when we got there. We practice catch-and-release of all
smallmouth bass and other trophy size species.

Well we got the rain and the
river is up. Water temps are in
the mid-60's. Looking forward to

Bio - After starting out in Austin, TX I've
lived most of my life in Minnesota.
After returning from Vietnam, where I
served with the US Marine Corps, I
graduated from The University of St.
Thomas in St. Paul, MN and worked
for a fortune 500 company for 25
years.
